Monitors are pillars of the Durham School community. The role provides a chance to shape school life, grow as a leader, and experience real responsibility. Every year, around 20 students are selected for this important role, will you be one of them this year?
Monitors are appointed from Year 13, and their role is to provide pastoral support for pupils and assist the community in ensuring that daily routines run smoothly. The role of a Monitor is rooted in our MARK values. Monitors will display moral integrity in their interactions with others, be ambitious in their strides towards school improvement, learn to manage real responsibilities, and be a kind leader in all that they do.
Monitors carry a high level of trust and responsibility whilst learning from staff expertise, making this a perfect early experience for personal development. The role will provide leadership experience, allow students to direct school life, and be a perfect chance to learn about how you tackle challenges.
We recognise the amazing work done by monitors each year and are very grateful for their commitment to the school community.
The application process is designed to be as fair as possible and allows students to demonstrate their talents in different ways. The selection process itself is a worthwhile experience, providing a taster or professional recruitment which students will experience later in life.
