Our exciting GCSE programme builds on the foundations and passions developed in Years 7-9.

This is the first opportunity pupils have to really focus their academic interests in preparation for further, more specialised, study at A level and beyond.

At Durham School, we offer a wide variety of subjects with a curriculum that is structured to allow pupils to opt for either breadth or greater specialisation. GCSE subjects are taught by passionate, qualified subject specialists. Many with experience working in their field of specialism before moving into teaching!

Our pupils are encouraged to choose subjects they enjoy and are supported when selecting their choice GCSE subjects by their teachers, tutors, housemaster/housemistress and of course, their parents.

What else can pupils expect whilst studying for their GCSEs at Durham School?

Outside of classroom learning, our dedicated staff are always available to support our pupils – from lunchtime GCSE sessions to advanced learning; regular celebrations and encouragement of academic progress.

“GCSE pupils can expect their chosen subjects to be brought to life through educational trips and excursions. From theatre, museum and gallery visits to the annual Geography field trip to Barcelona.”
