“The opportunities at Durham School Sixth Form are exceptional, and anyone thinking of coming make sure you make the most of what’s on offer.”
“Durham offers a really great range of subjects, so you can pick subjects that you like and that will get you closer to what you want to do. The teachers are very supportive, they’re willing to help you anytime.”
“Just go for it there’s no need to be scared and put off by the reputation and the size of the building. It’s really welcoming because one of my biggest fears just standing out and being alone. But you don’t need to be afraid of that.”

“The drama at Durham School is compelling, the teachers are incredible and encourage me to push myself to limitless levels. The opportunities in the drama department, on and off the stage, are unbounded and I encourage everyone at Durham School to try and pursue it.”

“The bands offered include choir, brass group, orchestra, string group, saxophone group, guitar group, then there’s musical theatre group, and many more. They’re all really good, you meet new people. On top of that, you have private lessons from teachers who come in from outside the school.”
“I’ve had loads of opportunities, like experiencing rowing for the first time, to get involved with loads of new bands, so orchestra, choir, brass group, jazz band, and it goes on.”
“I joined at Sixth Form, and what really brought it over the line for me was the opportunity to sing in a cathedral, because I had only sung in a small chapel before. It’s like a whole new experience and it’s just really cool.”
“Relax, you’re going to get all the support you need. The people here are very friendly and very supportive. You’re going to fit right in right away. I love how it’s really interactive and small classes so if you don’t understand you can go and have one-to-one.”
”At Sixth Form there are quite a lot of new people coming in and everyone’s really welcoming. The teachers are always there if you need anything as well as the pupils.”

“Sixth Form is the first time I’ve played rugby and cricket. Outside sports, I take part in different societies, like the Heretic Society and senior debating, which has been really good as it gives me a flavour of something I haven’t really done before.”

“The Heretics Society is a platform to speak about a topic that’s a bit controversial and try and convince everyone in the room, whether they’re right or wrong. It’s a way to share something a bit different and it gives you the opportunity to try public speaking and to persuade people.”
“On receiving the Burkitt Scholarship and being accepted into Durham School, I found the standard of teaching to be at the highest levels, far beyond that which I’d experienced at secondary school and at every juncture, I was encouraged to push myself to achieve my personal best.”
