What a year we have had. What a week we have had. After two weeks off (Dr’s orders) I have been so glad to get back to Lodge and see all the girls again. The range of activities on offer has meant there has been something for everyone. I tried my hand at Tai Chi, tyre rolling and watched model cars zoom across the Budworth in under 2 seconds! I hope the girls have all enjoyed the experiences.
On Wednesday afternoon we all took part in the colour run. The weather held. The girls took great delight in throwing paint and water over me, Ms Daley and Miss Maginn as we ran past. Everyone got covered in paint and ended up looking like walking rainbows! As well as being a lot of fun the event was also held as a charity fundraiser, and our share of the proceeds will be going to St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham. We don’t have the final amount yet but will let you know later in the year.
Thursday saw us helping the Zambezi Sunrise Trust as our community charity activity. The girls sorted out donated clothing to send over to Zambia so pupils at the school have uniform to wear. We also spent time writing letters to send out to the girls in the Linda Community School. Some of the girls also helped put up decorations for the House BBQ party.
House BBQs gave us a chance to celebrate our successes for the whole year. Congratulations to all of our prize winners. Well done to Eloise (Year8) who was the second ever recipient of the Lodge House Award for Outstanding Contribution. Eloise has done everything and anything for the House this year and is a worthy winner. Congratulations also go to Eloise and Isla (Year 8) for earning half House-colours in record time. It is incredibly unusual for a pupil to earn them in Year 8 and sets an excellent example to the Year 7s and 8s in September of what can be achieved by giving everything a go. Full House-colours were awarded to Grace and Rosie (Year 12) for all the hard work they have put in this year, and last. It was also an opportunity to say goodbye to our leavers. We will miss you all.
At time of writing, we were about to head off for Sports Day. I hope the weather remained good and that it’s gone well!
I need to say a huge thank you to Mrs Black for all her hard work and support as Deputy Housemistress this year. I know she isn’t leaving Lodge but as we go “all change” for September I wouldn’t feel happy if I ignored the contribution she has made in helping the girls and me. Her enthusiasm, knowledge and experience have shone through every day. THANK YOU MISS BLACK!
Finally, thank you to all the girls and the parents, grandparents, carers and everyone else who have made our second year as a House even better than the first. Your commitment and support has been wonderful and I wish everyone the sunniest of summer holidays. I look forward to seeing you all again in September when Mr Brownlee takes the helm and I can get a “rest” as Deputy!
