Lodge – 16 October

Without wanting to sound too much like a Lodge cliche, this week really has been a ‘hive’ of activity in the house. It seemed like every day brought something new – hockey, rowing, UCAS personal statements, haikus, history essays, a year 7 dramatic retelling of the witch trials… the list is endless and it certainly hasn’t felt at all like the penultimate week of term! While there is too much to mention individually, one highlight was the year 8 pumpkin carving social event on Tuesday, led by their tutor Miss Maginn. The creations were fantastic, with many taking rightful pride of place in our common room. I have certainly taken inspiration for my own pumpkin carving this weekend.

Drama has been a central feature of house activity this week. Thursday brought the annual House Drama competition, this year taking the difficult ‘play in a day’ format. Our team received their stimulus at 8.45am and they then had 8 hours to script, rehearse, design and eventually showcase their original piece. This is no small feat, and the girls worked incredibly hard throughout the day, led by our awesome seniors Freya M, Rosie M, Grace S and Amy G. The final production, an exceptionally ambitious piece entitled ‘The Things We Don’t Say’ was phenomenal and was met with high praise (rightly so!) from the adjudicator. We were awarded second overall in the best play category (36 out of 40 points), Luna M received our best actor award (and third best actor overall – 28 out of 30 points is an amazing achievement!), and the wonderful set design, lighting, sound and costume team received a monumental 30 out of 30 points, meaning Lodge House were victorious in this category. Although we finished a very narrow second overall to Pimlico house, the effort, talent and enthusiasm shown throughout the day is something that has made me incredibly proud, and the girls should be delighted with everything they achieved.

Next week, the excitement continues. On Monday our seniors will be enjoying the first ever Autumn formal, arranged largely by our very own Freya M; I’m really looking forward to dusting off my Tuxedo and joining the fun… I just hope it still fits! On Wednesday, 4.30pm – 6.00pm we have our house Halloween social; expect spooky games, decorations and lots of entertainment. Following this, I’m really excited to see several of our girls in the Winter Music concert in our chapel; this is always a highlight of the year for me, and the talent on show will be incredible. Finally, on Friday we have our Cathedral service, which will mark the end of a long, busy but very successful term; I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Have a fantastic weekend!
