A New School Year Begins at Chorister School
The beginning of a new school year is filled with many emotions. There is excitement about new experiences, but there can also be nervousness about unfamiliar classrooms, new routines and finding someone to sit with at lunchtime.
During the first week of the Autumn Term, pupils across Chorister School have shown just how quickly a collection of new faces can become a community.
New friendships have been formed in classrooms and on the playground, while returning pupils have helped new members of the School feel welcome. From FS1 to Year 6, there has been a real sense of kindness, encouragement and shared excitement about the year ahead.
It has also been a week of new beginnings for Mr Hannah, Interim Head of Chorister School. Reflecting on his own first days, he said that the warmth shown by pupils, staff and families had made his first week “an absolute joy”.
The School’s aim is for every pupil to be known, cared for and able to flourish. That commitment could already be seen in the many small but important moments that defined the week: a new friend offering reassurance, pupils helping one another in lessons, cheerful greetings on the Cobbles and children stepping confidently into their new year groups.
This spirit was reflected in the first MARK Awards of the term. Rather than recognising individuals, certificates were presented to whole classes for the positive way they had started the year. Pupils were celebrated for kindness, responsibility, teamwork, ambition and looking after one another.
Among them were the pupils of 2W, who were recognised for being good friends to one another. It was a simple but meaningful achievement, demonstrating that a successful first week is not measured only by lessons completed or routines learned, but by whether every child begins to feel that they belong.
The week also saw Breanna and Zachary announced as the new Heads of School in recognition of their commitment to Chorister School’s MARK values: Moral Integrity, Ambition, Responsibility and Kindness.
With friendships forming, confidence growing and the whole School community looking ahead, the new academic year has begun with warmth, purpose and plenty of reasons to smile.
