Lodge House news – 22 May

We’ve made it to half-term; the longest shortest half-term in history! There has been a lot crammed into these five weeks, everything from public speaking to cricket, drama to geography field trips, rowing to monitor selection; not to mention A-level and GCSE exams.

This week has seen the Year 9s go off to Staithes for the day. The weather just about held for them after Tuesday’s torrential downpours. On the same day Year 10 Art and DT students headed to Edinburgh, taking in the galleries and admiring the works on display. Percy and Nico have packed their bags and are headed home with me on Thursday.

Last week I went to watch the A-level devised drama piece, too late to include in the Friday Flyer. I want to say a huge well done to the four girls involved. Amy, Grace and Jasmine (Pim) gave a powerful performance on what it is like to be a girl/young woman in the modern age. Their performance was enhanced by set design by Freya. She has been working away for weeks on supersized compacts, lipsticks and lip balms that helped tie the piece together. The lipstick has now taken up residence in the common room because the message it carries is so applicable to all of the girls.

The big announcement last Friday was the new monitor team for 2026-27. I am delighted to say that all four Lodge girls (Amy, Freya, Rosie and Grace) have been made School monitors, and they all deserve the honour. With fewer monitors being appointed this year due to the smaller year group size it is a testament to how much they do and how much they impressed senior staff that they all secured a position. Amy will be taking over as Head of House from Lilly. Lilly has done a fantastic job all year and we wish her every success in the future. Excitingly, Freya has been appointed as the first ever Lodge House Head of School, a fact that we are very proud of. I have spoken to all four of them about my pride in their achievements and I look forward to working with them next year.

We return after the half-term break to internal exams and the continuation of GCSEs and A-levels. I hope all the girls use their time wisely to revise and take a break.

See you all in June, by which time I hope the weather has realised it is Summer!
