The Caffinites News – 22 May 2026

It seems that every year public and internal examination season creeps forward without everyone notices, there has been no gentle and steady introduction, and it feels that we are very much in the middle of the process. The boys are not only revising solidly, they are also cross-checking and making sure where they need to be and at what time.

This week saw the first duties undertaken by the new monitors in the House with Anay and Harry standing at the front of chapel, directing and ushering pupils to where they need to be. Both boys fully deserve their new posts and I know the rest of the tutor group will support them as they are a very effective team.

My Year 7 tutor group this week have spent time preparing their revision timetables. I reiterated the need to work hard and equally to plan when they would be able to relax. I had some productive conversations with some of the boys after they realised that they didn’t need to revise all day, to only eat and sleep the rest of the time. I explained that there have been countless studies that have shown that there are benefits to relaxation and exercise during intense period of revision. We all agreed that regular breaks were the way forward.

As we prepare for speech day, I am reminded of all that has been achieved by the boys in the House this year and although it’s not the end of the academic year, the Cathedral provides the ideal place to celebrate. I know there has been a very strong list of pupils that have contributed to the prize giving ceremony from the House and I look forward to the evening.

Have a great half-term.

Mr Thompson.
