It seems almost ridiculous that we have just five days of this half term remaining, and the pace of life in The Caffinites House shows absolutely no signs of slowing down! It has been another incredibly busy and rewarding week, with the boys throwing themselves into everything that school life has to offer. With so much happening both inside and outside the classroom, there has certainly been no shortage of activity, enthusiasm or House spirit.
Many of the boys are understandably beginning to look forward to the well earned two week break. However, with another busy week ahead, there is still plenty to look forward to before we finally reach the holidays.
House Drama has undoubtedly been one of the main topics of conversation this week, with the boys dedicating a considerable amount of their time and energy to preparing for the competition. The competition was hotly contested yesterday evening, with each House challenged to deliver a ‘Play in a Day’. This is no easy task, and I was extremely impressed by the quality, creativity and confidence displayed by all those who took part. The standard of performance across the Houses was exceptionally high, making for a thoroughly entertaining evening.
A special mention must go to Oliver R (Year 7), who delivered a particularly impressive performance. Oliver demonstrated tremendous confidence and enthusiasm on stage, and it was fantastic to see him embrace the opportunity so wholeheartedly. His efforts were deservedly recognised when he was awarded runner-up for Best Actor on the evening, a fantastic achievement and one of which he should be extremely proud.
I must also congratulate Harry G (Year 13) and Joshua M (Year 10), who took on the responsibility of directing our House production, ‘The Men in the Very Dark Grey Suits’. Directing a group of 20 boys from across the year groups, particularly within such a limited timeframe, requires patience, organisation, creativity and leadership. Both boys rose to the challenge, and I was extremely grateful for the time and effort they invested in bringing the performance together.
Although the group received some very encouraging comments, unfortunately, this was not to be our year. However, as far as I am concerned, the final result does not matter. What matters most is the commitment and teamwork that was demonstrated by everyone. Everyone contributed to the success of the production, and they represented The Caffinites House with tremendous pride!
One of the most rewarding aspects is seeing everyone from different year groups supporting one another, developing new friendships and stepping outside their comfort zones. These experiences are an important part of House life, and I could not have been prouder of the way the boys conducted themselves.
A massive thank you must go to our entire cast:
Aidan O, Archie E, Arthur C, Blessed L, Cuthbert W, Dhilan RA, Dominic G, Dominik S, Ewan B, Fraser J, George L, Harry G, Joshua M, Joshua H, Oliver R, Tejas G, William P and Joe X.
Wednesday saw our U12 and U13 rugby players take on St Peter’s York in another exciting round of matches on top ground. Congratulations to both teams on their impressive wins! Looking ahead to tomorrow, we have another busy day of school sport, with a number of boys preparing to represent the school in their respective fixtures. Good luck to everyone involved.
As mentioned previously, invitations will be sent out next week for our Parents’ Drinks Reception on Friday 20th November 2026.
This is always a particularly enjoyable evening and one that I very much look forward to. It provides a wonderful opportunity for parents to meet the House staff in a relaxed and informal setting, put names to faces and gain a greater understanding of House life.
It is also an excellent opportunity to meet other parents, particularly those who may be new to our community. The evening will begin at 7:00pm and is expected to finish at around 9:00pm. If you would like to attend, I would be grateful if you could RSVP by emailing me at a.mcmillan@dcsf.org.uk.
As we approach the end of what has been an exceptionally busy and long first half of term, I would like to draw your attention to a few important arrangements for our final day.
Our Cathedral Service will begin at 3.00pm, and as usual, parents are more than welcome to join us at the Cathedral. Following the service, I ask that lockers are completely emptied and that all personal belongings are taken home. This includes school uniform, sports kit, footwear, books and any other items that may have accumulated over the course of the half term. I would appreciate your support in encouraging your son(s) to take responsibility for their belongings.
Please note that the House will officially close at 4.30pm, and I would be grateful if parents could make the necessary collection arrangements in advance. For school transport, buses will depart at 4:30pm.
Have a great weekend,
Mr A. McMillan
