Activity Week at Chorister School 2026: A Week of Adventure, Discovery and Learning

Activity Week at Chorister School was packed with exciting opportunities for pupils to step beyond the classroom, embrace new challenges and create lasting memories. From educational visits and creative workshops to outdoor adventures and hands-on activities, every year group enjoyed a week filled with fun, learning and personal development.

Our youngest pupils in EYFS welcomed a special visit from Durham Constabulary’s Dog Support Unit, where they met a friendly police dog and discovered more about the important work carried out by the police. They even had the opportunity to dress up as police officers, making for an unforgettable experience.

FS1 travelled to Butterfly World, where they learned all about the fascinating transformation of butterflies before enjoying time exploring Preston Park and Gardens, combining science, nature and outdoor learning.

Year 1 explored their musical creativity by composing their own songs using a beatboxing simulator app. Through experimenting with rhythm, tempo and different sounds, pupils worked collaboratively to create original pieces while developing their confidence and musical skills.

Year 2 celebrated the end of their topic with a fantastic Earth Superheroes Day. Dressed in blue, green and superhero costumes, pupils learned about caring for the environment before taking part in litter picking, a nature scavenger hunt and creating paper plate sea turtles. They also enjoyed a special visit to the Riverview Kitchen terrace, where they discovered how the local ecosystem had been carefully considered during its design. The visit concluded with a delicious pancake treat, kindly provided by Mr and Mrs Gergin, whose generosity was greatly appreciated.

Year 3 had a busy and exciting week, becoming pizza chefs during a visit to PizzaExpress Durham, where they created their own Margherita pizzas before enjoying them back at school. They also completed pedestrian safety training with Durham County Council’s Travel Team and finished the day with a celebration assembly, a lively Rock Band performance, Farm Fest and a collaborative art project.

Year 4 made the most of the outdoors with a visit to Wharton Park, taking part in a variety of activities while exploring the beautiful surroundings. The day encouraged teamwork, curiosity and a greater appreciation of the natural environment.

Year 5 embraced practical outdoor learning during Forest School, where they learned how to safely build and light a fire before toasting marshmallows together. The experience helped develop resilience, teamwork and valuable outdoor skills while building confidence in a natural setting.

Year 6 showcased their creativity, engineering knowledge and problem-solving abilities during an exciting STEM egg-drop challenge. Working in teams, pupils designed and built protective structures to prevent their eggs from breaking when dropped, testing and refining their ideas before the final challenge. Congratulations to the teams whose eggs successfully survived all three drops.

One of the week’s highlights was Farm Fest, which proved to be a huge success across the school. Pupils enjoyed learning more about farming through a variety of engaging, hands-on experiences, gaining a greater understanding of where food comes from and the importance of agriculture.

Activity Week once again demonstrated the value of learning beyond the classroom. Through educational visits, creative projects, practical challenges and outdoor experiences, pupils developed confidence, resilience, teamwork and curiosity while creating memories that will stay with them for years to come.

A huge thank you to all of our staff, volunteers, parents and external partners who gave their time and expertise to make Activity Week such a memorable success. Their support ensured every pupil had the opportunity to enjoy an inspiring and rewarding week of learning.
