As the half term draws to a close the boys in School House can look back on what has been an excellent term. While it has certainly been busy, the boys have still managed to create a very positive and friendly atmosphere making the house a brilliant place to be. It would be remiss of me not to say that they haven’t had their ‘moments’ but they are a fine set of young men. This half term is always a tough one so to see such energy this morning in our final house meeting speaks volumes for them all. To round off the term, Sam F (house legend) has learnt to play Floreat Dunelmia on the piano so we sang the school song the only way Bungites know how- loud and proud.
DHM Diary
As we are now at the holiday after a long half-term it is certainly a time to reflect on what has been and what will be. For me it has been good to get to know the Year 7s, interviewing them has given me a good opportunity to see how they have settled and as I mentioned a few weeks ago sport is certainly high on many of their achievements, culminating in some excellent wins in House rugby. At the older end I am wading my way through speaking to the Year 11s (my tutor group) about their futures and will continue this process all the way until they leave. After half-term I will be talking to the Year 8s so I am looking forward to hearing how they are.
In terms of reflection, I hope all pupils do take stock of how everything has gone, think about the highs and work on the lows. Half-term is always a time to reset and recharge.
I was pleased to present quite a number of Laud cards for 10 or more points today (in no particular order): John CD, Marcus H, Vance M, Sam P, Lucas F, James H and Spencer S. By my counts that is over 20 pupils now on 10 or more Lauds which is around a quarter of the House, well done to all. The next target is 50 Lauds so we shall see if anyone can reach that by Christmas!
Top five Lauds (to 22nd October), in first place Fraser M, second equal are James Y, Harry M and Oliver B and in fifth place are James K and Lawrence E.
Sport
Junior House Rugby has been the standout event of the week with three teams from Bungites in action (Non contact, Year 7 Contact and Year 8 Contact). I am pleased to report that all three side won all f their games meaning Bungites retains the trophies for another year. Ben S and Gussy A (returning from injury so great to see him have a run out) put in stellar shifts in their two games and I am told all boys contributed with tries. Our Year 7 Team enjoyed a comfortable win over Poole and backed it up with a solid win over Caffinites. James E scored a couple of cracking solo tries with James Y getting the ball moving quickly allowing our big ball carriers and skilful backs to operate. Isiah O and James Y captained the side brilliantly. Our Year 8 side comfortably beat Poole then had to step up a gear to beat a resilient Caffinites side. Ibrahim A catching the eye with some superb running and tackling. Chris H scored lots of tries with Sam P, Harry M and Ibrahim Alm all fronting up in defence. Sam P and Henry S were superb captains and led by example. The boys were rightly very proud of themselves, and it was a fantastic watch.

Music
House music this year will be based around ‘Musicals’ which, for a large boys house like Bungites, makes it an even bigger challenge! Early excitement that Back to the Future and Dirty Dancing could be options was quickly quashed so we are scouring the internet for alternative options. Rehearsals will begin after half term with part song auditions happening in the first couple of weeks back.
Academic
You should all now have the boys’ half term reports so please do check your inboxes and let tutors know should there be a problem.
Charity
The whole school ‘100 in 100′ is starting to gather pace and it is great to read about the boys’ efforts. A little closer to home, myself, staff and the Sixth Form will be taking part in Movember in memory of Mr Fordyce’s brother who sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago. The work Movember do in supporting Men’s Mental Health is invaluable and we are proud to be taking part.
Housekeeping
With it being the end of term, my usual plea to encourage the boys to bring any worn games kit or perishable food home with them. We will be chasing them tomorrow to try and support this. The house closes at 4:30pm for half term and reopens for Boarders on Sunday 8th November at 5:00pm.
Finally, a massive thank your for all of your support of the boys this term.
