This half-term has certainly packed in a great deal in the way of activity for the boys. Normally after 8 weeks of contact time, the pupils seem to lag a little in relation to their enthusiasm, however, watching the House Rugby Competition proved that there is an abundance of energy left.
Some might say that our finishing position in the House Drama was a little disappointing, but the way the boys worked together and had to coordinate their efforts really showed what an amazing bunch of boys we have. The rehearsals that I watched were well-ran and I am informed that Oliver R in Year 7 really showcased what a talented group we have in the lower years.
As part of the sculling series, five events that take place on the water from Berwick to Durham, Tyne hosted the middle race on Saturday and I am pleased to say that Matthew W and Dominic G both came away with wins in their respective categories. As I was there to watch them, it’s great to see how they both steered their crews expertly against and out-going tide on a tricky river to take the win.
As a mentioned in the opening paragraph, before the horrible weather on Friday, the House Rugby event took place in pleasant sunshine (thank heavens for the dry weather as 40 pairs of dirty boots in the House would certainly have our matron very anxious). When I walked away, the Year 7 boys were ahead against Poole with Janisan R and Oliver R both scoring well under the posts. Contact rugby isn’t for everyone and I was pleased to see a game where touch was involved so that all of the Removes contributed to the overall score.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Mr. Thompson
