Jill spent her childhood in Sunderland and Aberdeen, going on to achieve a 2:1 degree in Mathematics and Economics at Sunderland Polytechnic. After graduating, she trained as a Chartered Accountant with RHK in Gateshead and Harlands in Stanley. She joined Allen Sykes Chartered Accountants in Bishop Auckland in 1995, becoming the firm’s first female partner in 1999. She qualified as a financial adviser and worked as an IFA and, later, a St James’s Place partner alongside her role as accountant, auditor and tax adviser with Allen Sykes.
Jill’s connection with DCSF began when her son joined the school in 2020, in Year 8. Having taken early retirement, she was delighted to be asked to join the Board of Governors in June 2025. She was previously on the board of Moving On (Durham) Ltd for 10 years and has held various voluntary roles including as a church treasurer. Retirement has freed time to carry out further voluntary roles including weekly litter-picking and Lumiere 2025.
Jill, a Sunderland season-ticket holder, lives in Chester-le-Street with her husband (a Newcastle season-ticket holder) and son (no interest in football!).
