How do we support our Sixth Form Pupils?

All our Sixth Form staff are available to pupils, whether in person, virtually or via email. Durham School is committed to the development of its pupils, and the following are just some examples of the extra support provided:

  • Fortnightly careers lectures and workshops delivered by School staff and visiting speakers from a wide range of local, national and international universities, as well as other relevant organisations
  • An experienced team of Sixth Form tutors with detailed knowledge of the challenges faced by pupils at each stage of their Sixth Form journey
  • One-to-one careers interviews with the Head of Careers
  • Support for applications to overseas universities, with a strong track record of pupils securing places at universities in the United States, Europe and Asia
  • A UCAS week at the end of Year 12, offering pupils an in-depth guide to the university application process and the opportunity to visit local universities, including Newcastle, Northumbria and Durham, as well as the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge
  • Access to Durham University’s libraries for independent research, alongside encouragement to attend relevant public lectures and other events organised by the University
  • Opportunities to take part in a wide range of academic competitions, including national Maths Challenges, science Olympiads and Oxbridge essay competitions, with support provided to help pupils prepare
