As the end of the week turned a little colder, we have been reminded that the shorter days are on their way and in the House, there have been more and more jackets appearing. I have noticed that warmer air will be coming in over the weekend however and hope that the jackets are given at least two days off.
There were five boys from the House selected for the STEM day on Thursday in Newcastle and, as ever, they all had a brilliant time as well as learning a great deal about Science and Maths. The boys returned on Friday after a full day on Thursday with enthusiasm and energy, hopefully this carried over into lessons too. Standing up for English and creativity too, there was a healthy number of Haikus sent to Mrs Swan as a result of the challenge last week for National Poetry Day.
There is always a degree of excitement when anyone mentions the first House competition of the year and the House Drama this year takes on a very different format which focuses on the boy’s ability to think on their feet. It will be a ‘play in a day’ and will test the boy’s ability to coordinate themselves as a group and get the best out of who they have as a cast and crew.
Tutor group activities have started last week with the Year 13 boys off to Nando’s for a meal on Monday night. I myself am the Year 8 tutor and when I had a conversation with the boys about what they wanted to do, it was a bit more active than a restaurant (which we did last year).
I would like to pass on the best of luck to everyone in sporting fixtures this weekend but especially to Harry and Cuthbert W who take part in trials over the weekend in judo as they will, if successful, form part of the points scoring system to the pathway to the Olympics.
The boys enjoyed STEM Fest this week, taking part in a range of activities and exploring the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. More to follow on our social media channels.

Have a great weekend everyone.
Mr S. Thompson
