Values and Aims

The Foundation’s values – Moral Integrity | Ambition | Responsibility | Kindness – underpin all that we do.

Our Values: M A R K

Each value has a clearly articulated group of behaviours that help pupils to understand and demonstrate M A R K.

Moral Integrity

We want our pupils to leave us as mature and responsible young men and women, equipped with the skills to tackle the challenges ahead.

We strive to add value to each and every one of our pupils.

  • We have the courage to say and do the right thing.
  • We demonstrate the will to do the right thing.
  • We can be relied upon to do the right thing.
  • We act in private as we do in public.
  • We stand firm for what is right.
  • We challenge things we believe are wrong and are open to challenge from others.
  • We are accountable for failure as well as success and do not allocate blame.
  • We demonstrate and promote honesty and remain true to ourselves.

Ambition

Durham School encourages pupils to be ambitious. Pupils make excellent academic progress, supported by a strong record of academic achievement and success in team sports.

  • We achieve our goals by working towards them consistently.
  • We go above and beyond the call of duty.
  • We are ambitious when setting goals for ourselves.
  • We seek help and support before giving up and identify lessons in setbacks.
  • We encourage everyone to fulfil their potential and support others to achieve theirs.
  • We embrace opportunities and challenges, and seek to develop our skills and talents.
  • We identify opportunities for School development.

Responsibility

Our pupils are punctual and purposeful in all that they do. We use our resources responsibly, developing and caring for the environment around us. We are pioneers in discovering better ways of doing things.

  • We do what we say we will.
  • We are punctual and purposeful in all that we do.

Kindness

It is the generosity of today’s Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation community that helps to enhance and enrich pupils’ learning in the classroom.

  • We are open and approachable to all, no matter their gender, faith, race or background.
  • We welcome and listen to the opinions of others, and seek to engage and involve a diverse range of views within the community.
  • We support and include newcomers and those in need of help, and actively build relationships.

  • We recognise individual needs within our diverse and inclusive community.
  • We speak positively about the School community and respond to questions in a positive and constructive manner.
