Pre-School and Pre-Prep Weekly Blog

It has been another busy and fun week in Pre-Prep.  As part of their Science topic, Year 2 have been thinking about the environment.  They were challenged to design something to reuse our rubbish.  Inspired by being outside in the sunshine in the beautiful surroundings of the College Green, the children came up with some wonderful ideas such as a bird feeder made from plastic boxes and decorative paper chains from scrap paper and used wrapping paper.  As part of their theme ‘Treasures of the North East’ the Pre-School children have looked at Hadrian’s Wall and the Romans.   They then made their own roman helmets.  Year 1 were ‘Safe Image Searching’ in Computing this week as part of their ‘Online Safety’ topic. The children learned how to use a search engine and use a ‘Safe Search’ filter to locate photos of a macaw parrot, to make a ‘Rainforest’ poster. There were some special visitors in Reception this week.  Some caterpillars arrived to help the children with their learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.  We are all looking forward to seeing how they will grow and change.
