Bungites – 9 October

I am going to start this weeks Friday Flyer by saying a huge thank you to those who brought boys into Open morning last weekend.  It was a brilliant morning with a good number of potential future Bungites having a look around.  The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with the boys once again proven to be our best ambassadors.   KEEP AN EYE OUT…. invitations have been sent for our Parents’ Christmas Drinks on the 4th December and I really hope lots of you are able to attend.  This is a strictly child free event (in the nicest possible way) and a chance for us all to catch up and enjoy a lovely evening.

Academic

With Parents’ evenings now coming along, please do not hesitate to contact your son’s tutor should there be any follow up needed.  For senior parents, our careers advisor, Mr Macnair, is always available should you need to speak to him, and I know some of you have been in touch already.  A message has also been sent to parents who would be interested in speaking to pupils about career choices so please have a rummage in your inboxes!

Sport

Last Saturday, our rowers were at South Hylton with Nick W winning his event. Marcus H, Chris H and Vance M competed int heir first 5km race performing well.  It was an excellent run out for the club and the boys should be proud of themselves.

A relatively quiet weekend last weekend for the rugby club with only two teams in action on Saturday.  Our U13s, U14s, U15s and U16s were all in action last weekend. U13s had a tough day but I was told Jack Z scored a cracking try!  U14s won one and lost one.  All teams did well.  U15s lost in the cup to GSAL with Ethan B battling hard.  U13s came second in the County Cup yesterday with Sam P and Ibrahim Ai catching the eye.  Our U12s won a tough game against Barnard Castle with James Y scoring two tries in a 4-2 win.  Isiah O carried and tackled well throughout the game in what was a strong performance.
The senior squad head up to Merchistan Castle this weekend and we wish them well as they look to make amends for a disappointing weekend last year.

DHM Diary

A relatively quiet week from my point of view.  Pupils are ticking along and there does seem an element of going into auto pilot.  As mentioned last week, ensuring that everyone keeps on top of everything is important and going on auto pilot can make that difficult.  We talk about being dynamic in what we do, something I had to think about when renewing my lifeguard qualification last week.  Not only do we need to be ever watchful about what is going on at present but we should also be considering anything else that can come along.
Trips
On Wednesday night the One-Year GCSE class, including Jammy J,  enjoyed an Art trip to Luxmuralis at Durham Cathedral.  The Cathedral did not disappoint, and it was a fabulous light show, and we enjoyed the cake at the end of the visit!
Thursday was the GCSE Drama showcase, as always I am stunned by how talented our pupils are and we had Joseph W performing.
Some more tutor outings to look forward to over the next few weeks; with the Year 13s going to Zizzi’s today, before many of them head off to Edinburgh and the Year 7s on the 12th October doing football and food.
Future trips
Thinking about Drama, we have House Drama next Thursday.  Chalie D and Jason W were leading the way this week getting pupils signed up, all waiting for what they will be asked to do.  With a play in a day, it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
Lauds
With Lauds flying in thick and fast, the leaderboard as of 2nd October stood at Harry M and Fraser M tied on first, James K and Oliver B tied on second and James Y fifth.  The latter four also collecting their double digit Laud postcard last Friday.  A quick peek into this weeks awards suggest that a lot more will be getting a postcard today.

Boarding

Our boarders are off to Lane 7 in Durham this weekend for some Ten Pin Bowling.  Last weekend’s social was a ‘Pub Quiz’ with all of the pupils taking part!  While the general knowledge was varied the company was consistently excellent!

House Keeping

A quiet week in the house by recent standards though I would except tired boys to evolve into grumpy boys in the not too distant future!  With only a couple of weeks left of term the boys are almost on the home straight but that does not mean standards will drop.  Our main issue at the moment is senior boys wearing games kit all day.  Please could I ask that parents of boys in Years 12-13 to remind the boys to bring their uniform into school.  My next step is to make the gym out of bounds during the day which would be a shame. We have high standards, and these will not be shifted.

I wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
