A Level results – Durham School

DURHAM School pupils have overcome the most turbulent of times to land places on courses at a number of the UK’s most prestigious universities.

In total, 53% of leavers are going to Russell Group universities.

These include three pupils who secured places at the University of Cambridge. Head of School, Jonny, secured 4 A* grades to meet his requirements to study History. Maggie achieved 4 A* grades to study Engineering and Zofia who gained 3 A* to study Psychological and Behavioural Sciences.

Durham School prides itself on not only being an excellent place to access the top universities but also is hugely supportive of pupils going straight into industry and specialist colleges.

Among those taking a more vocational route, Anthony secured A* and 3 As and is heading to Geigenbauschule Brienz – the Swiss School of Violin Making – to pursue his love of crafting beautiful violins. While at Durham School, Anthony passed his Grade 8 Violin on an instrument he made himself.

Kieran McLaughlin, Principal, said:

The past two years have been like no A Level period we have ever witnessed. We are immensely proud of the hard work, diligence and good humour shown by our pupils as they navigated the challenges of A Level study during a pandemic.

The young women and men receiving their grades today are progressing on to fantastic institutions and we wish them well in their onward journeys.

In addition to three pupils going to Cambridge, four students have secured places on prestigious Medicine programmes and one is reading Veterinary Medicine.

A total of 63% of pupils have places at Russell Group universities or the Universities of Lancaster, Loughborough and St Andrews.

The overall grades for Durham School are as follows:

  • % A*-A                 62.1%
  • %A*-B                  83.7%
  • %A*-C                  95.3%
  • Overall pass rate 100%

Congratulations go to all students, with special mention to:
