Sports scholarships at Durham school offer many opportunities, making you get involved in new things and with it comes the team spirit.

I chose Durham School because of all the positive feedback, how helpful all the teachers and how nice the school community is. You get a lot of independence, and the study periods really help you. It’s smaller class sizes, so you really do get a deep connection with your teachers.

Durham offers a really great range of subjects, so you can pick subjects that you like and that will get you closer to what you want to do. The teachers are very supportive, they're willing to help you anytime.

Just go for it there’s no need to be scared and put off by the reputation and the size of the building. It's really welcoming because one of my biggest fears just standing out and being alone. But you don't need to be afraid of that.

The drama at Durham School is compelling, the teachers are incredible and encourage me to push myself to limitless levels. The opportunities in the drama department, on and off the stage, are unbounded and I encourage everyone at Durham School to try and pursue it.

I am grateful I can study music at Durham School, they give me many things I want in Music. There are many places where I can create my music.

I’m thankful that at Durham School I have had the opportunity to take photography as an A Level subject as I find it a very fun creative outlet that gives me lots of freedom to develop my photographs in the way that I enjoy most.

Cricket here at Durham School has taken my game to another level and has moved me out of my comfort zone. There is always a platform and chance to go and express yourself and creates an environment where you learn a lot and are free to ask questions.

The bands offered include choir, brass group, orchestra, string group, saxophone group, guitar group, then there's musical theatre group, and many more. They're all really good, you meet new people. On top of that, you have private lessons from teachers who come in from outside the school.

I've had loads of opportunities, like experiencing rowing for the first time, to get involved with loads of new bands, so orchestra, choir, brass group, jazz band, and it goes on.

I joined at Sixth Form, and what really brought it over the line for me was the opportunity to sing in a cathedral, because I had only sung in a small chapel before. It’s like a whole new experience and it's just really cool.

Relax, you're going to get all the support you need. The people here are very friendly and very supportive. You're going to fit right in right away. I love how it’s really interactive and small classes so if you don't understand you can go and have one-to-one.

At Sixth Form there are quite a lot of new people coming in and everyone's really welcoming. The teachers are always there if you need anything as well as the students.

Sixth Form is the first time I’ve played rugby and cricket. Outside sports, I take part in different societies, like the Heretic Society and senior debating, which has been really good as it gives me a flavour of something I haven't really done before.

The Heretics Society is a platform to speak about a topic that's a bit controversial and try and convince everyone in the room, whether they're right or wrong. It’s a way to share something a bit different and it gives you the opportunity to try public speaking and to persuade people.

Durham School Sixth Formgave me the confidence to trust my decision making when going down the apprenticeship route and offered support throughout. School also gave me the confidence and the self-belief that allowed me to progress through the competitive and challenging application process. The thing I’ll miss most is the social aspect of school and being part of the community

My favourite thing about rowing at Durham School is being supported and encouraged by the coaches to become a better athlete. I will miss the community and friendly atmosphere, not only the School but the boat club.

Coming from a state school, the scholarship meant that all of my hard work, against all odds, was noticed and awarded. For me, Durham School opened new paths and opportunities, affirming my abilities, and motivating me to reach beyond the heights of my ambitions every step of the way

Durham School first attracted me for its diverse extracurricular opportunities and excellent geographical location. I soon discovered how Durham School values all kinds of talents, music, drama, sports, etc. When I graduated, I continued my studies at the University of Cambridge majoring in Economics.

I am very grateful for the scholarship during the sixth form, and felt extremely privileged to be able to study at an institution of such reputation and prestige.

On receiving the Burkitt Scholarship and being accepted into Durham School, I found the standard of teaching to be at the highest levels, far beyond that which I’d experienced at secondary school and at every juncture, I was encouraged to push myself to achieve my personal best.

Thanks to the Burkitt Scholarship and accompanying bursary, I am now studying medicine at one of the top universities in the UK and am one step closer to achieving my dreams.

Without such generosity, I would not have been able to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities offered by Durham School.

Their gifts have enabled me to change my future and go on to study at a top university. As I enter this next stage of life, I shall always be grateful for the wonderful opportunities their generosity has given to me and am proud to say that I am and will remain a Dunelmian.
