Chorister News pre-prep prep

Last weekend, the Chorister Girls enjoyed their team building weekend in Barrington House whilst fulfilling their choir duties. This was a great opportunity for the team to work together and build on their relationships whilst those in older years can act as leaders and show their responsibility. This weekend, the choristers will sing in The Messiah in the Cathedral which I am sure will be a beautifully atmospheric concert.
The Spring round of Parents’ Evenings is well underway and I hope that those who have attended so far have found the sessions informative and helpful. For those attending Year 5 and 6 subject teacher meetings this week, thank you for your patience during the busy peak times of the evening.
On Wednesday, we were delighted to welcome the Senior School Wellbeing Ambassadors and Mrs Thompson to our classrooms to deliver a launch activity for Children’s Mental Health Week. Working alongside our own ambassadors, the children enjoyed an activity based on ‘belonging’ under this year’s theme ‘This is My Place’.
Today, the highly anticipated House Music event brought a fabulously entertaining showcase of Queen songs performed by the four houses, also including a staff flash mob. Please see House News below for the results.
Next week promises to be another enriching week of opportunity, starting with the Year 1 to 6 House Cross Country event on Monday morning and closing with our half-term cathedral service on Friday. A wide range of events on the calendar for all to enjoy both inside and outside of the classroom.
Best wishes for the weekend ahead.

This week, pupils took to the stage for our House Music Competition, themed around the iconic music of Queen and what a performance it was! Framwellgate sang Seven Seas of Rhye, Elvet performed Radio Ga Ga, Prebends rocked I Want to Break Free, and Kingsgate delighted us with Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Our Year 2 House Captains drew for the running order, and from the very first note, the atmosphere in the Sports Hall was absolutely electric. EYFS and Pre-Prep pupils made a fantastic audience, proudly waving their house flags and cheering on every performance with great enthusiasm.

Congratulations to our overall champions, Prebends, with their show-stopping rendition of I Want to Break Free. The judges were particularly impressed by their brilliant volume, pace, and energetic actions. My thanks also go to the brilliant House staff and Mrs Murray, who spent many hours rehearsing, planning dance moves, and even took to the stage themselves to surprise the children with a fantastic flash mob. It was a truly memorable moment! The whole performance was recorded and we will be sharing the video with you very soon. Well done to everyone involved for making this such a joyful and unforgettable event.

January has been a great start to the year for WOW, with pupils and staff alike sticking to our New Year’s resolutions and getting those steps in across Prebends Bridge! Our WOW community continues to grow, with an impressive 137 pupils earning their WOW badges last month.

• If your child thinks they should have received a badge and has not, please let me know – I will be very happy to award one retrospectively. It has also been lovely to see the creative entries coming in for our WOW Design a Badge competition. Please do encourage your child to hand their design to their class teacher if they would like to be considered – the final day for entries is Friday 13th February.

We are delighted to invite parents to join us at our whole Chorister School Holi Colour Run, which will take place on Palmer’s Close playing field. A Holi Colour Run is a run inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi, where participants are doused in vibrant coloured powder paint. Holi events focus on health, joy, and community and children in our extended international schools family will be taking part at the same time. The event is being organised by Iona M (Year 6), who is raising money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice as part of her MARK award. The funds raised will be shared between the Hospice and the The Zambezi Sunrise Trust. To support these charities, we ask that each child donates £2 which can be brought as cash to school on the day and we will also offer the opportunity to make a donation online.
• NB As part of the activities, children will be throwing powder paint. Children should wear clothing that they do not mind getting marked. You may also wish to bring a cover for car seats for the journey home. Further information about the programme for the afternoon (including collection arrangements for children of parents who will be joining us) will be issued a little nearer the time.
