Excitement is building as our much-anticipated production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang prepares to take to the stage. We spoke to Mrs Brownlee, Producer and Director of the show, to find out what audiences can expect from this spectacular performance.

Mrs Brownlee explained that this production is far more than a typical show. “This isn’t just an ordinary production,” she said. “It is a high-quality celebration of talent. There is such professionalism throughout, and it truly showcases the incredible talent we have to offer.”

The production highlights the strength of performing arts at Durham School, with many of our talented performers going on to attend prestigious drama schools and pursue successful careers in television and West End productions. This year’s show is no exception, with an impressive cast of around 70 pupils, supported by more than 20 pupils working behind the scenes. This does not even include our dedicated hair and makeup team, all of whom play a vital role in bringing the production to life.

Costume design also plays a huge part in the magic of the production. Miss Halligan has worked tirelessly to design and create the costumes, which are truly fantastic and visually stunning. Her creativity and attention to detail help transport both performers and audiences into the world of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, adding another layer of authenticity and spectacle to the show.

Mrs Brownlee also praised the diverse range of pupils involved in the show. “We have such a wonderful mix of pupils, all with unique talents,” she explained. “When they come together, it makes the production even more special and truly impressive.”

Audiences can expect a show filled with nostalgia, passion, excitement and creativity, capturing the true essence of the much-loved film. The production features impressive pyrotechnics, special effects, stunning lighting and set design that promise to create an unforgettable theatrical experience.

Adding to the authenticity and magic of the production, the show will feature a replica working Chitty car and replica props from the original film, kindly supplied by Rob at ChittyHire.com.

Mrs Brownlee promises that audiences will be amazed by the scale and quality of the production. “We have incredibly high standards, and we promise you will be laughing, crying, clapping and singing along as the story unfolds.”

This promises to be a truly fantasmigorical experience for audiences of all ages. We warmly invite everyone to join us for what is set to be an unforgettable theatrical journey.
