Chorister News pre-prep prep Wellbeing
Our New Chorister School Wellbeing Hub
At Chorister School, we believe that a happy child is a learning child. Wellbeing is central to school life, woven into every aspect of what we do. This term, we are delighted to introduce our brand-new Wellbeing Hub — a peaceful, welcoming space designed to help pupils reset, reflect, or talk to a trusted adult.
Each half term brings a new programme of carefully planned sessions to support pupils’ emotional and personal development. These are guided by the Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation’s MARK values — Moral Integrity, Ambition, Responsibility, and Kindness — which underpin our approach to pastoral care.
Children who demonstrate these values are celebrated weekly through our MARK Awards, reinforcing positive behaviour, empathy, and emotional growth.
Our approach is both holistic and proactive. Families receive regular updates about each child’s wellbeing alongside their academic progress, ensuring a rounded view of every pupil’s development. Pastoral care is led by an experienced senior leader, and our School Nurse provides one-to-one emotional support whenever needed. Pupils are also supported by Wellbeing Ambassadors, a team of peer leaders who promote kindness, inclusion, and friendship throughout the school.
We are proud to work closely with our Senior School Wellbeing Mentors, whose visits help strengthen connections across the Foundation and foster a consistent culture of care.
Every classroom at Chorister School includes a wellness area for calm activities such as mindful colouring, quiet reading, or gentle reflection. National events such as World Mental Health Day and Random Acts of Kindness Day are celebrated across the school, encouraging empathy, self-awareness, and community spirit.
At Chorister School, we are committed to nurturing the whole child — emotionally, socially, and academically — so that every pupil can flourish in every aspect of their school journey.
