“She’s a brilliant example of what this sport is all about – partnership, passion, and perseverance.” – Olympic Gold Medalist, Laura Collett

We’re thrilled to share that Durham School’s Year 9 student, Jessica, has received the Spotlight Award, presented by The Howden Way and British Eventing. The award celebrates exceptional individuals in the sport who embody the values of these organisations. To secure this award, Jess was nominated by British Eventing lead coach, Will Murray, and then selected by Olympic Gold Medalist, Laura Collett.

Will Murray commends Jessica’s work ethic and her dedication to practising before and after school. Laura Collett notes that the love and hard work that Jessica has put into her journey was clear to her. She also notes the impressive standards of Jessica’s performance, jumping double clear at her first 2* at just 14 years old.

Jessica was a true sportswoman when reflecting on her award:

“I was so excited to win the Spotlight Award. I live and breathe for my horses, and it really does make those after-school, dark, and windy nights worth it! I’m in Year 9 at Durham School, and I’m really grateful for how supportive they’ve been with my training and competing nationally.” Jessica, Year 9

We are incredibly proud of Jessica’s growing list of achievements and know she will continue to succeed far into the future. We also hope she enjoys her prize – a Uvex Exxential 3 riding helmet.
