Staff Spotlight: Mr Smith, Head of Physics

After completing his physics degree at Durham University, Mr Smith was drawn to Durham School by its beautiful grounds and began his 15-year-long career here. After a day at Durham School, you’ll often find Mr Smith spending time with his family or playing cricket for Tynemouth CC in the North East Premier League.

Mr Smith predicts that his students see him as quite intense and hardworking. One thing he recommends to everyone is “The High Performance Podcast”.

Did you know that Mr Smith appeared on TV four times as a child? Twice on “Blue Peter”, once on “Live and Kicking”, and once on “Dear Mr Barker”!

At Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation, everything we do is rooted in our core values: Moral Integrity, Ambition, Responsibility, and Kindness – known as MARK. These principles shape who we are, how we learn, and the kind of young people we strive to become.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing a series of short films created with our pupils, exploring what each of these values means in action.
🎬 We begin with M for Moral Integrity — doing the right thing, even when it’s not easy.
