Peripatetic Singing Teachers

The teachers will be self-employed and will bill parents directly for lessons.

Hourly Rate: In line with the national average for VMTs.

Hours: Various throughout the school year, on a part-time basis.

Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation is comprised of two prestigious schools which date back to the early 1400s: Chorister School and Durham School.

Singing is built into our DNA, with Services, Assemblies and House Music Competitions cherished by pupils throughout the DCSF family as an essential part of school life. Vocal pupils of all ages have many opportunities for performance at internal and external events and competitions, both as soloists and as members of one of our five choirs.

DCSF Music Department, including a 25-strong experienced and dedicated VMT team, works closely with Durham Cathedral Music Department, supporting our talented and hard-working Cathedral Choristers at both sites; and has built strong links with a wide range of musical organisations in the North East.

The Positions

The Music Department wishes to recruit two part-time singing teachers from September 2024. Each successful candidate would be required to teach individual weekly lessons throughout the school year, and would ideally have keyboard skills and the ability to teach piano.

  • One of the candidates would be classically trained, ideally with experience of working with boy and girl choristers aged 7-13 (Year 3 to Year 8). They would teach pupils from Year 3 to Year 13, and would work closely with the Music Department and the Cathedral.
  • The other candidate would specialise in Musical Theatre. They would teach pupils from Year 7 to Year 13, and would work closely with the Music and Drama Departments.

There is scope for expansion of the roles to include leading co-curricular activities such as choirs or musical theatre clubs and workshops.

Closing date: Monday 20 May at 4pm
